Micah Walker talks to renowned film director Steve Rogers. Having worked with Rogers on some of his most awarded campaigns, Walker was eager to sit down and listen to the Director’s thoughts on film making and ideas. Collaboration is a major theme of the episode, with Rogers sharing his love for what he does and his approach to commercial film-making.
Micah, who has just recently returned to Australia to head up 72andSunny helped produce some of Australia’s most unique and memorable work. After working for Leo Burnett around the World. He left Leo Burnett Sydney in 2003 to join Fallon London in the role of creative director and partner, where he stayed for four years, during the agency’s renowned creative run. In 2007 Micah returned to Australia to take up the role of ECD at Publicis Mojo Sydney, where he stayed until his departure from the agency in 2011. Walker went on to join The Monkeys in 2012 in the role of creative partner until returning to the US in 2013 to fill the role of ECD at Wieden + Kennedy Portland.
After completing art school in Sydney, Steve started his own production company,
Revolver, in 1998 soon to be joined by partner, EP/MD Michael Ritchie. In that time, Revolver has been awarded Production Company of the Year twice by New York Festivals as well as 4 x Australian Production Company of the Year by AWARD more than any other company. Most recently in 2018, Revolver were also awarded runner-up in the Palme d’Or at Cannes Lions and ranked 4th in the world by D&AD.
Steve has been consistently recognized amongst the top 10 directors in the world, directing work for a range of international clients. His accolades include 6 Cannes Gold Lions, D&AD Yellow Pencil’s, a Clio Grand Prix, Gold at The One Show, and multiple awards at London International Awards, Best in show at AICP, the New York Festivals and AWARD. He has also received two Emmy nominations and was nominated for the DGA awards in 2016.
In 2018, Steve directed Tourism Australia’s Dundee spot for the Super Bowl which has already collected multiple awards including 3 Golds, 2 Silvers and a Titanium Lion at Cannes Lions.
Beyond the commercial realm, Steve directed the stage play, Moving Parts in 2013 and most recently launched REVLOVER, a new film & television arm of Revolver, founded with his current business partner Michael Ritchie and former Screen Australia executive, Martha Coleman.
